Sayoc Kali - The Art of the Blade
Sayoc Kali is a blade-centric Filipino Martial Art best known for its extreme realism, pressure testing, and targeting philosophy. If most systems treat the knife as a weapon, Sayoc treats it as the environment.
It was founded by Pamana Tuhon Chris Sayoc and comes from a family lineage in the Filipino blade traditions.
With the focus of “All Blade, All the Time” this is a highly evolved bladed system. This curriculum focuses on mastering Vital Targeting of the body, installing reflexes that are honed to perfection and the tactical use of multiple edged weapons in high stress environments. All this through the use of Transition Drills, Vital Templates, Multi-Man drills, Training Modifiers and target-specific tapping against intelligent, skilled and resisting opponents.
Sayoc Kali Instructors have been instrumental in the training and fight choreography for major motion picture like “The Hunted” and with the US military, where Sayoc Tactical Group (STG) has trained many of our nation’s most elite military special forces groups and warriors.
What Makes Sayoc Kali Different
Most FMA systems start with sticks and later translate to blades.
Sayoc Kali does the opposite:
Blade first. Everything else is a translation.
Empty hand = blade
Stick = blade
Gun retention = blade
That mindset changes everything.
Core Principles of Sayoc Kali
🔪 Targeting over techniques
Specific anatomical targets
Vascular, nerve, tendon, and structural damage
Each strike has a purpose, not just an impact
🩸 Multiple-strike doctrine
No “one and done”
Continuous cutting, thrusting, and repositioning
Assumes adrenaline, movement, and resistance
🧭 Angles, zones, and lines
Attacks organized by lines of entry
Zones of engagement instead of fixed stances
Constant footwork and repositioning
🧠 Tactical decision-making
Awareness of bystanders
Environmental use of fixed weapons (walls, cars, obstacles)
Legal and ethical considerations are discussed openly
Training Characteristics
Live blade awareness (often aluminum trainers)
High-intensity partner drills
Stress inoculation
Realistic ranges (grappling distance included)
Use of “Feeder/Receiver” roles to build intent
Sayoc drills are often unscripted quickly, forcing real reactions rather than memorized patterns.
Empty Hand & Cross-Training
Even though it’s blade-focused, Sayoc Kali includes:
Panantukan (dirty boxing)
Dumog (Filipino grappling)
Clinch work
Firearms integration (retention and transition)
Everything is still taught through a blade logic lens.
How Sayoc Kali Differs from Other FMA
Traditional FMA : Stick-first - Pattern heavy - General targets - Sport influenced
Sayoc Kali: Blade-first - Intent heavy - Precise anatomy - Survival focused

It’s about survival, not ego.
