Teaching and learning martial arts for over 40 years!
Mr. Strickland’s school is a long time community member of Flower Mound, having opened his school in Highland Village in 2001.
He started his training in 1979 with Taekwondo Master Rick Hoadley at the Family Fitness Training Center in Mobile, Alabama. A member of the American Taekwondo Association (ATA).
In 1984 he became a full time instructor and began teaching his own club in Tillman’s Corner, AL.
In 1988 he moved to Charlotte, NC and opened his first full-time Taekwondo Plus training center with the United States Taekwondo Alliance (USTA). In 1993 he co-founded Taekwondo America (TA).
Mr. Strickland was the the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) North Carolina sport chair hosting the 1997 qualifying tournament for the Jr. Olympics Games in Charlotte.
In 2011 he relocated his center to its current location in Flower Mound, TX and co-founded Taekwondo United (TU). He began training in Inayan Eskrima (a Filipino Martial Art or FMA) under Peter Sorce (Sorce Training Systems/STS) and Suro Jason Inay.
In 2022 he co-founded Innovative Martial Arts Systems (IMAS) a national martial arts tournament circuit.
Mr. Strickland is a member of Warriors Way International studying FMA under the elite tutelage of Tuhon Harley Elmore. Training in the arts of Kali, Indonesian Pentjak Silat, Maphilindo Silat, Muay Thai kickboxing, Bruce Lee’s Jun Fan Gung Fu and Majapahit Martial Arts.
He is a member of Silat Suffian Bela Diri (SSBD) under the instruction of Silat Cikgu Maul Morni.
He is a DAAB (Defense Against Aggressive Behavior) and (CCM) Criminal Counter-Measures women’s self defense coach and instructor.
Over the years Mr. Strickland has hosted seminars with kickboxing martial arts legends such as Bill “Superfoot” Wallace and Joe Lewis.
He has hosted numerous camps and tournaments on the regional and national level.
Mr. Strickland expertise encompasses a wide array of martial arts disciplines from Taekwondo to Weeping Jujutsu. He is constantly learning and has a deep passion for sharing martial arts and perpetuating the teachings to all of his students and putting martial before art.
