Grit
Having grit in martial arts means possessing a combination of perseverance, resilience, and mental toughness that allows a practitioner to push through challenges, setbacks, and hardships. It’s the ability to keep training, improving, and overcoming obstacles—even when things get tough.
Here at Strickland’s Martial Arts we push our students to go beyond what they think they are capable of. It’s what separates the warriors from the weaklings.
Key Aspects of Grit in Martial Arts:
Perseverance – Sticking with training despite failures, injuries, or slow progress.
Resilience – Bouncing back from losses, mistakes, and tough sparring sessions.
Discipline – Consistently putting in the work, even when motivation is low.
Mental Toughness – Staying focused and composed under pressure, whether in competition or daily training.
Long-Term Commitment – Understanding that mastery takes years, not months, and embracing the journey.
In short, grit is what separates those who quit after a few struggles from those who push through and achieve true skill and mastery. Having grit builds a “yes I can” attitude. Simply put nothing of value comes easy, and if it does it’s probably not worth much or worth having. Would you say you’ve had to show grit in your martial arts journey?
