Halloween is all about costumes, candy, and spooky fun! Keep your little ghosts and goblins safe this Halloween with these simple tips from Stricklandās Martial Arts.
š» 10 Halloween Safety Rules
This Halloween, be safe when trick-or-treating by watching for cars!
1. Trick-or-Treat with a Trusted Adult
Younger children should always stay with a parent or trusted adult. Older kids should travel in groups and follow an agreed-upon route.
2. Be Bright and Be Seen
Use glow sticks, flashlights, and reflective tape. Choose costumes that are easy to see at night.
3. Stop, Look, and Listen
Cross at corners and crosswalks. Look both ways, make eye contact with drivers when possible, and put phones away while crossing.
4. Make Costumes Safe
Avoid masks that block vision, oversized shoes, and long trailing fabric. Face paint is often a safer alternative to a mask.
5. Check Candy Before Eating
Let an adult inspect all treats. Avoid unwrapped, damaged, or suspicious-looking packages and follow any food allergy precautions.
6. Stay on Sidewalks
Walk whenever possible. If there are no sidewalks, stay along the edge of the road facing traffic. Never dart between parked cars.
7. Visit Safe, Familiar Homes
Only approach homes with permission and welcoming lights. Never enter a strangerās home or vehicle.
8. Know What to Do If Separated
Identify a safe meeting place, memorize a parentās phone number, and find a trusted adult or uniformed emergency responder if lost.
9. Keep Your Hands Free and Your Head Up
Carry treat bags without blocking your view. Stay alert, avoid roughhousing near roads, and watch for trip hazards.
10. Trust Your Instincts
If something feels wrong, leave immediately, stay with your group, and tell a trusted adult. You never have to be polite at the expense of your safety.
